SASSA grant payment dates for November 2026 (moved for the elections)
SASSA's revised November 2026 grant payment dates (from 30 October, because of the 4 November elections), the review payment day, and 2026/27 grant amounts.
November 2026 payment dates (revised)
Local government elections are on Wednesday 4 November 2026, which President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a public holiday. In a statement on 14 October 2026, SASSA moved the November payments forward to avoid a clash with election day. SAnews, the government news agency, reported on 15 October that National Treasury approved the revised dates.
| Grant type | Revised date | Date in the March schedule |
|---|---|---|
| Older persons' grant | Friday 30 October 2026 | Tuesday 3 November |
| Disability grant | Monday 2 November 2026 | Wednesday 4 November |
| Children's grants | Tuesday 3 November 2026 | Thursday 5 November |
| Grants under review | Thursday 5 November 2026 | — |
The older persons' grant for November is therefore paid in October. Thursday 5 November is set aside for beneficiaries whose grants are in the review process. SASSA said: "The agency remains committed to ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive their grants in an orderly and reliable manner."
If your grant has been flagged for review, SASSA does not pay it in the normal three-day cycle. It is paid on the separate fourth payment day, and SASSA then asks you to visit an office during that month to complete the review. Not responding to a review request may lead to the grant being suspended or lapsing.
October 2026 (already paid)
SASSA paid the October grants on the dates in its 2026/27 schedule, approved by National Treasury on 20 March 2026: older persons' grant on Friday 2 October, disability grant on Monday 5 October and children's grants on Tuesday 6 October 2026.
Grant amounts in 2026/27
Maximum monthly amounts, from Government Gazette No. 54397 of 23 March 2026. All grants except the foster child grant are means-tested, and the older persons', war veterans' and disability grants are paid on a sliding scale, so people with other income may receive less.
| Grant | Monthly amount |
|---|---|
| Older persons' grant | R2 400 |
| Older persons' grant, age 75 and over | R2 420 |
| War veterans' grant | R2 420 |
| Disability grant | R2 400 |
| Care dependency grant | R2 400 |
| Foster child grant | R1 300 from 1 October 2026 (R1 290 from April to September) |
| Child support grant | R580 |
| Child support grant with top-up | R870 (R580 plus R290) |
| Grant-in-aid | R580 |
| COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) | R370 |
The 2026 Budget Review funds SRD payments at R370 a month until 31 March 2027.
How the November change came about
On 30 September 2026, TimesLIVE and IOL reported a SASSA statement that "the payment cycle for November is being reviewed in view of the upcoming Local Government Elections". The revised dates above followed on 14 October. SASSA says it communicates only through its official website and verified social media accounts, so check those, not forwarded messages, if you see other dates.
Checking your payment
- The money stays in your account. SASSA has said: "There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed." A grant not collected for more than three consecutive months can be suspended, and you then have 30 days to apply for it to be restored.
- Not paid on your date? SASSA notifies people selected for a review by SMS. If your grant is under review, it is paid on the fourth payment day. If you still cannot get your money, SASSA asks you to visit your nearest office.
- Keep your details up to date. SASSA can only send review notices to the contact details it holds, so tell it when your cellphone number, address or finances change.
- SRD applicants can check their status at srd.sassa.gov.za.
